Work is underway to enhance the offering at a Rotherham garden centre, with a 150-seat Satellite restaurant being constructed to complement the existing 300-seat restaurant.
Once completed, the improvements at Wentworth Garden Centre in Hague Lane will create 15 new jobs.
The business instructed planning and design specialists Malcolm Scott Consultants to prepare plans and oversee negotiations with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to secure permission to build the 800 sq metre extension at the site.
Chris Primett of MSC said: “We were very pleased to secure this approval in light of the sensitive nature of the application. This was a particularly challenging project given that the garden centre is situated within a listed walled garden, in the Green Belt and near a Conservation Area”
“We were realistic with the application and the council was satisfied that the proposed improvements would be in-keeping with the surroundings, and also provided a real benefit to the local community – enhancing a popular asset for visitors and creating a number of new jobs within the area.”
Tony Airey, owner of the centre, said: “Without the expertise of MSC I suspect that we still would have been going round and round in circles.
“We have used MSC for many years and have developed an excellent working relationship with the team, who understand our commercial needs and know how to navigate these through the complex planning system”.
Tony hopes that the development will open late Autumn 2019.
