Business development and planning specialists at Malcolm Scott Consultants have hailed the launch of a new Southend garden centre restaurant a huge success.

The business worked closely with the team at Scott’s Of Southend to help establish Scott’s Kitchen, a new restaurant at the Sutton Road site, which opened for business at the end of last month.

While MSC has more than 30 years’ experience in planning and design experience with rural businesses, this project saw the business get further involved with operational decisions including recruitment and supply-chain to offer end-to-end support for the Scott’s team.

Andrew Burton of MSC said: “We are absolutely delighted to have worked so closely with Scott Bird and the team to launch this fantastic restaurant development. In addition to working alongside the planning aspects of the project where we advised Scott Bird about the planning requirements for the whole site, focusing on the retail and catering areas, we also designed the kitchen and restaurant interior, completed the CAD drawings and building regulations work and then saw the project through including sourcing the equipment supplier and supported with the installation and project management throughout the construction process.

“We were especially excited to play a key operational role, building trading budgets and designing the launch menu to ensure a rounded offering focused on freshly-made products with locally-sourced ingredients that encompassed a host of dietary requirements, and sourcing suppliers for the restaurant to ensure that a high level of quality was guaranteed.

“Finally, we were involved within the recruitment process, recruiting the newly-appointed restaurant manager, Giles Mimms and supporting with some of the staff recruitment. It has been a really rewarding experience for us to demonstrate the breadth of services we can offer to garden centres to ensure their restaurants and retail areas are successful, and we’re thrilled that Scott’s Kitchen has been so well received by its customers,” he added.

Scott Bird, of Scott’s of Southend, said: “We have been delighted with the response we’ve had to Scott’s Kitchen since it opened last month, and we’re so pleased with the look and feel of our restaurant.

“Working with Malcolm Scott Consultants ensured that the restaurant and retail areas have been designed to attract existing and please new customers, and a great deal of thought that went into our team values, menu and interior design has gone down a storm.  Malcolm Scott were also part of the product sourcing, with added touches such as artisan ice cream, all sourced through a network of trusted local suppliers and talented chefs and bakers.

“Our restaurant is a vital part of our garden centre and it needed to be right. We paid attention to important aspects of the restaurant, such as great staff, good toilet facilities, access to sockets and wifi within the indoor dining area, and ensured that our outdoor area was appointed to offer the perfect view of our plant courtyard.  All of this helps make sure that visitors feel relaxed and welcome, something we’ve definitely achieved according to the excellent feedback we’ve had so far,” Scott added.

Scott’s Kitchen is open from 9am-4pm Monday-Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday, and booking is not required.
